Before Arkham's business

Author of eleven Inspector Pomfret mysteries, all set in a town suspiciously like Arkham. Has lived in Room 214 of the Garrison since 1919. Pays by the month, tips by the week.

Droll, observant, theatrical, lonely. Treats every event as material and knows it.

Afraid of

Writer's block · Dying in a hotel

Believes

Everyone is a character. Arkham is a rather overwritten novel.

From the journal

Monday, 27 September 1926

Saturday, 25 September 1926

Her publisher in New York. Quiet here. I don't think about Arkham much. I think about it all the time.
