From the journal
Went back to Kingsbury Woollen Mill to check. Exactly as expected: nothing. The simpler hypothesis remains the only respectable one. A cold night.
Walked around Town Hall & Registry of Deeds twice. Just brick, mud, and chilly air. There is always a gap between what occurred and what someone felt about it. To bed, sensibly.
Bell insists on the impossible. I prefer to wait for more facts. On Sunday I mistook a startle for a revelation regarding the business at Kingsbury Woollen Mill. Pure nerves. Time to turn in.
I keep coming back to the business at Kingsbury Woollen Mill, and each time I find another ordinary explanation, and each time it's not quite enough. Old building, cold night, frightened people. Every element is ordinary. When the week is quieter I'll see what's in the Historical Society's clippings. It will be there, or it won't.
Measurements first. Account second. Inconclusive. Needs more data. Everything needs more data.
Arrived Kingsbury Woollen Mill 10.00 p.m. Took initial readings. Every anomaly is merely an uncalibrated variable. Give me two known points and the right bridge circuit and I will find the leak.
Registers cleared.
