Before Arkham's business
Came to Arkham in 1919 after the influenza took her sister Clara. Holds sittings on Thursdays. Half her clients are grieving and half are curious.
Watchful, dry, frightened and brave about it. Admits privately that most of her sittings are theatre. Not all of them.

The dead are near. Other things are nearer.
From the journal
The Gazette, by the lamp, after supper. The Gazette has it as "New Turn in Old Faculty Row — Halsey's Office Business". That is the least of it. The talk about Blakemore House — the Collector's Residence walks behind me through the day like an uninvited parishioner. When the week is quieter I'll ask to see an old tax assessor's ledger.
Thursday sitting. Mrs. Abbott's husband 'came through' with advice about her bank. It was only me, and it was good advice.
Home to Arkham. I prayed on the platform. That cold was not from the cellar. A draft does not carry a scent of lilies.
Leaving Arkham for a while — work in Gloucester. Keep them, Lord. I am afraid, as always. I have made a home in it.
